German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said Monday that his country and Poland's defence ministries were in discussion over how German Patriot anti-aircraft defence systems could be deployed in Polish territory.

"We are now exploring in concrete terms how this can be implemented. The two defence ministries are cooperating very closely on this," Scholz told reporters.

Germany offered Poland the use of its air-defence system after a missile strike occurred in Poland close to the Ukrainian border and left two dead on Nov. 15. The missile appeared to have been fired accidentally by Ukraine's air defences rather than having been a Russian strike, according to NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg.
