QUEER AND VEGAN: IS THERE A CORRELATION?
#LIVE

Naijha speaks with Destiny DeJesús and Brianna Fisher, a Queer couple of color living the vegan lifestyle.

Destiny received her Bachelor’s degree at St. John’s University in Queens, NY majoring in Journalism, and began her Masters program in Marketing at the University of Texas at Dallas. Throughout her college career, she highlighted stories of marginalized communities through her writing then later turned to videography and digital storytelling.

She’s worked in the nonprofit sector since graduating in 2014 and is currently the Community Engagement Manager at Sentient Media, a nonprofit news organization that reports on social justice issues involving farmed animals, our food system, the environment, and more.

As a Queer, woman of color from The Bronx, Destiny has experienced the troubles within our food system first-hand and developed a passion for food justice education. She started a brand called Eat Yo Destiny. She uses social media to educate communities on food accessibility and uses her platform to show people how to find vegan options, use local resources such as pantries/community fridges, and make nutritious meals using limited ingredients.

You can learn more about Destiny and her work at www.eatyodestiny.com.

Brianna started her tech career in 2019 as a Datacenter Technician at IBM. During her time there, she helped customers with hardware and network issues concerning their servers.

In 2020, she decided to pursue a career in Software Engineering after realizing she wanted to work more with the programming and coding side of things. She decided to quit her job at IBM to attend a coding bootcamp called General Assembly (GA) and graduated during the height of the pandemic. While working for a medical software company, she has continued growing her skills and started a freelancing career to help others build and manage their websites.

When Brianna isn't working on websites, she enjoys listening to music and teaching herself to DJ. Brianna also serves as a Sergeant in the Army National Guard with over 8 years of service.
