As the birthplace of sushi, Japan is unsurprisingly home to some of the best sushi in the world. While there are many excellent sushi restaurants to be found all across the country, three cities stand out as especially renowned for their seafood cuisine: Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto.
In Tokyo, some of the most popular and highly-rated sushi spots include Sukiyabashi Jiro, Sushi Daiwa, and Sushi Saito. For a truly unique experience, visitors can also try conveyor belt sushi at one place like Kura Revolving Sushi Bar or Genki Sushi. In Osaka, well-known places for delicious sushi include Kuromon Market and Matsusakagyu Yakiniku Misono. Those looking for an upscale dining experience can book a table at Mizumi, one of Michelin-starred restaurant located inside the Ritz-Carlton Osaka hotel. Finally, Kyoto’s top spots for fresh sushi include Funaoka Onsen Mansei Honten and Setoya Kuromachi Honten – both longtime local favorites serving up traditional Edo-style nigiri since the early 1900s.

Sashimi is a type of Japanese cuisine that consists of raw fish or seafood that has been thinly sliced. Sashimi is often considered to be the finest form of Japanese cuisine due to its freshness and delicate flavor. The most popular types of sashimi are tuna, salmon, and yellowtail.

How to eat sushi.
When eating sushi, it is important to use chopsticks correctly. Hold the chopsticks in your right hand and rest them on the edge of your plate. Then, use your left hand to pick up a piece of sushi and dip it in soy sauce. Be sure not to over-dip, as this will make the sushi too salty. Eat the sushi in one bite, and then put the chopsticks down on the plate.
It is also considered good manners to eat nigiri sushi with your hands instead of chopsticks. To do this, pick up the nigiri with your thumb and forefinger and dip it lightly in soy sauce before eating.
How to make sushi.
Making sushi at home is easier than you might think! All you need is some short-grain rice, a bowl of water, some nori seaweed sheets, fillings of your choice (raw fish, cooked shrimp, cucumber, avocado, etc.), and a bamboo mat.
First, rinse the rice in a bowl of water until the water runs clear. Then, cook the rice according to package instructions. Once it is cooked, let it cool for a few minutes so that it is easy to handle.
Next, take a sheet of nori and place it on the bamboo mat. Wet your hands with some water and grab a handful of rice. Spread the rice evenly over the nori sheet, leaving about an inch at the top uncovered. Then, add your fillings of choice...
