Police Officer Remanded on Attempt Murder Charge, PC James Riley @Lancashire Police

A serving Lancashire Police officer was charged with attempted murder after an incident at a hotel.

Police were called to a hotel on Brook Street, Manchester at around 11.30pm on Thursday, November 10 to reports of a concern for the welfare of a woman.

The woman was taken to hospital where she remains in a stable conditionspokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "An investigation into that incident is ongoing and is being conducted by colleagues from Greater Manchester Police.

He has been suspended from duty and we have referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. As we're sure you will appreciate it would be inappropriate to comment any further at this time."

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson added: "James Riley, 27, a serving Lancashire Police officer, has been charged with attempted murder. At approximately 11.30pm on Thursday 10 November 2022, police were called to a report of a concern for the welfare of a woman at a hotel on Brook Street, Manchester.The suspect, named as James Riley, has been remanded into custody to appear at Manchester Crown Court on Monday, November 14.

The officer in Lancashire Police 's south division, which covers areas including Ormskirk, Skelmersdale and Preston, was charged with attempted murder.Emergency services attended and the woman was taken to hospital, where she remains in a stable condition. Riley has been remanded in custody and will next appear at Manchester Crown Court on Monday 14 November 2022."
