Date of construction: 1721-1725 In the XVIII century, among wealthy Europeans, the fashion for the construction of special pavilions called "Hermitage" or "place of solitude" spread. They were two-storey buildings; on the lower floor there were cooks and servants who prepared and served food, which was delivered by lifts to the upper floor, where the close circle of guests of the owner of the estate gathered. In Russia , the first Hermitage was created in Peterhof by decree of Peter I. It is built on the shore of the Gulf of Finland in the western part of the Lower Park. The very idea of its construction arose from Peter during a trip to Europe, where he first saw such buildings. The Peterhof Seaside Pavilion served as a prototype of all the Russian "Hermitage" built subsequently.
