Don't Remove Your Retainer After You Discover Mewing

In this video I caution listeners NOT to remove their retainers after discovering Mewing. Many of us have a wire glued to our teeth or some other retainer following our childhood orthodontics. We are tempted to remove this retainer after we discover Mewing, usually because we think it is restricting our ability to expand our jaws using our tongue.

This is incorrect. I removed my childhood retainer back in 2012, wanting to go "all natural." By 2016, my teeth were significantly worse. I have spoken with at least a dozen others who have removed their retainers, and in almost all cases, the result is a collapse of the smile. The teeth move, and not in a good way.

My advice is to keep your retainer in until you start your new round of expansive orthodontics (with MSE or similar). Then once you finish, plan on keeping a retainer going into the future, probably for life. Don't overestimate the power of your tongue.
