A set of deities worshipped by the ancient Sumerians, Akkadians, Assyrians, and Babylonians is known as the Anunnaki (Sumerian; sometimes written as Anunaki, Annunaki, Anunna, and other forms). The Anunnaki are described as deities in the pantheon who are the offspring of An and Ki, the god of the heavens and the goddess of earth, in the earliest Sumerian writings about them, which date from the Post-Akkadian period. Their main duty was to determine the fates of humanity.
