A new quantization principle from a minimally non time-ordered product - Talk at CSIC, Madrid

Abstract: Three different, equivalent approaches to purely virtual particles are available at present. I compare them and describe the more recent one in detail, which builds the physical (unitary) S matrix from the common (possibly unphysical) one by projecting the latter onto a physical subspace and changing the definitions of diagrams accordingly. In the new diagrammatics, every topology is associated with not just one diagram, but a sum of diagrams, built with two propagators for purely virtual particles: the Feynman one and the Wightman one, which is non time-ordered. The micro violation of time ordering explains the micro violation of causality. Purely virtual particles offer a solution to the problem of the quantization of gravity and a prediction for the tensor-to-scalar ratio r of primordial fluctuations (0.4 ≲ 1000r ≤ 3), which could be tested within our lifetime.
