Kevin McCarthy Fights Tooth-and-Nail Against Democrat Spending Blowout

One month ago the American people voted for a new direction in Washington. It was their will that the current business-as-usual approach needs to stop.

It’s obvious why.

Inflation is higher today than it was 11 months ago when President Biden said it had “peaked.”

Last month our deficit was nearly $250 billion – a record for the month of November. This was fueled by a 55 percent increase in our interest payments.

Job losses are increasing and the labor force is shrinking.

And yet – the Senate is writing a 1.7 trillion dollar spending bill in Chuck Schumer’s office without anyone knowing what’s in it, and expect us to pass it with no real debate

The Democrat-led Senate is preparing to defy the will of the voters and grab as much taxpayer money as possible, with NO ACCOUNTABILITY.

The House controls the power of the purse – and Republicans earned the majority because we are serious about getting spending under control.

The same can’t be said about the Senate.

The Senate passed ZERO appropriations bills out of their committee this year, and ZERO appropriations bills off the floor this year.

That’s right: ZERO. They are 0 for 12.

This is what Democrats stand for in 2022: more spending, higher inflation, and ZERO accountability.

The fact that the Senate is even considering this last-minute omnibus is a slap in the face to every American.

In addition to spending billions more that will make inflation worse, Democrats’ lame-duck omnibus would keep the southern border wide open, ignore the fentanyl crisis plaguing every American community, would do nothing to reverse Biden’s anti-energy agenda, and would allow the I.R.S. politicization and abuse to continue.

This omnibus represents Biden’s radical agenda – exactly what the new House Republican majority will fight tooth-and-nail against if Republicans hold the line and wait 20 days.

If any Senate Republican is looking for bipartisan cover in the House, they should not expect to get it.

House Republicans refuse to support this bill and the dysfunction that brought us to this point. Taxpayers deserve accountability NOW. And with inflation at a 40 year high, we need to hit the brakes, not step on the gas.

In 20 days, the House will be under new management and no longer will the Senate be allowed to neglect their basic governing duties and then try to negotiate something at the last minute.

The House will not negotiate against itself next Congress. The current business-as-usual approach is over.
