Burry Port, Wales "Landing For 1st Woman To Fly Across The Atlantic"

Burry Port is a Town in the county of Carmarthenshire, Wales. Burry Port is home to a harbour and is where Amelia Earhart landed as the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean.

Two Welsh villages, two miled apart, claims to be the spot where Amelia Earhart landed to become the first woman to complete a transatlantic flight. Both villages have monuments of the day - June of 1928.

1. Pwll has the official blue plaque used in Britain to mark important places, people, and events.
2. The other claimant, Burry Port, has erect more plaques, and make them bigger.

Burry Port was initially known as Pembrey New Harbour, it was built to accommodate larger ships than could the nearby Pembrey harbour.

Burry Port Harbour was built in the 1830's to ship coal from the Gwendraeth Valley. Tinplate, copper, silver and lead works grew up alongside.

Burry Port Lighthouse is a harbour light with a reflector, and is situated on the west breakwater of the outer harbour. It was built in 1842.

Pembrey and Burry Port is a fast developing community situated on the coastal belt of the Carmarthenshire Burry Estuary.
