How big is it in your life? (Growing seed/Mustard Seed Mark 4:30-34, Matthew 13:31-32)
We have all heard the statement, “They are just making a mountain out of a mole hill,” meaning that someone is blowing something completely out of proportion. It is not a big deal, but they are making it a big deal in their life, and they want everyone to know about it. This happens a lot in our lives as stress, fast paced lives, procrastination, and lack of organization allows things to catch us off guard and sometimes we turn mole hills into mountains. When I read the parable of the mustard seed by Jesus, I cannot help but think that most of us turn a mountain into a mole hill instead of a mole hill into the mountain. The Kingdom of God is a continually growing Kingdom as individuals accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior daily adding to His Kingdom. The modern church, I believe has taken something that is supposed to be a mountain in their life and reduced it to something very small. We are too casual with the things of God and esteem the things of this world way too much.
Matthew 6:33 says that we should put the Kingdom of God first in our lives and then everything else will fall in line for us. Instead of doing this we put our jobs first, our families first, our hobbies first, and everything else first instead of the most important thing, God. We are committed to the things of this world but when it comes to church, Bible study, prayers, etc. we do it when it is convenient for us, and when it will not interfere with our daily plans. We use the things of the world as excuses for missing the things of God’s Kingdom as we have our priorities completely turned upside down. The mountains in our life should be the things pertaining to God’s Kingdom while everything else should be small mole hills that we take care of after we take care of the things of God. So, let me ask you, how big is the Kingdom of God in your life? Have you given it a place of prestige, high importance, and focus or is it a mole hill that you have neglected? Examine your heart and see if your priorities are in line with what God’s Word says should be priorities in life or are you turning worldly mole hills into mountains.
