The Supernatural Power of Tongues

Pentecost Sunday
The arena of God’s activity is in the inner man or the spirit of a person – where we get filled with all the fulness of God – and this fulness is God’s heart’s desire. What happened in Babel was an anti-type of what happened on the day of Pentecost. In Babel, a fleshly human city devoid of Spirit, God brought a dispersion of the Babilonians through different languages and on the day of Pentecost he established his spirit-filled city, the new Jerusalem, by diverse languages. The Church is this city, also described as a bride, or mount Zion. We are – since we are in Jesus, who is the light of the world – also the light of the world, set on a hill, the chief of all mountains. In this city is a temple and we are the temple of the Holy Spirit, built out of living stones. Our innermost being, where the Holy Spirit dwells, is the new Holy of Holies. Out of there, where the throne of God is, flows a glorious river of life. Tongues is an indication of this river. Tongues is a supernatural power, a sign to unbelievers that Christ is in us, a sign that our tongues are disciplined and submitted unto the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Praying in tongues is speaking faith instead of murmuring. This way of praying is our rest and refreshing, it is praying the perfect prayer unto God, it is a way to edify and build up ourselves. It is a way to utter incredible praise unto God when human language fails. Praying in tongues builds you up in your most holy faith and the water of the Spirit puts out the fiery darts from the enemy. Through praying in tongues, the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us when we do not know how or what to pray.
