Japan needs to increase its defence spending in the face of the "grim reality" of the threat from China and North Korea, Japan's ruling party's policy chief Koichi Hagiuda said on Sunday. Hagiuda said this during a visit to Taiwan. Japan has already announced plans to lift defence spending to 2%, from the current 1%, of GDP within five years.
