Barrie was the Official Documenting Photographer for the Shroud of Turin Research Project, the team that performed the first ever in-depth scientific examination of the Shroud of Turin in October, 1978. In January, 1996, he created The Shroud of Turin Website, shroud.com, now the oldest and largest Shroud website on the Internet.
