LIFE, LOVE AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE- Interview with Cristina Davy

About Cristina Davy

Born and raised in Romania, my early life was ruled by communism.

Dictatorship also extended to our family home where my younger sister and I had few liberties while living under the same roof as our strict father in an environment of alcohol, domestic violence and a limited display of love.

At age 14 my world was turned upside down when my mother was shot through the kitchen window during the revolution. This left her unable to take care of us, so this role often fell to me until my mother was able to recover years later.

I grew up craving love and freedom, feeling like there was never enough for me in the environment I was raised in. One thing I was certain about was that there must be more to life if I could just escape my circumstances.

Since the age of 17 I have always desired to help others, so I have studied to be a psychologist. However, I found study to be challenging (later, in my early 30’s I was diagnosed with ADHD), and failed my final exams three times, giving me a fear of tests and the limiting belief that I wasn’t smart enough. This left me unable to pursue my strongest aspiration at that time.

At 22 I was lucky enough to get a job working on a cruise ship. Over the following 12 years I worked my way up from waitress to bartender to art auctioneer, my life offering everything I had missed – the opportunity to travel the world, meet lots of people, and get married.
