Over the last few years, we’ve seen the automotive market expand in a way no one quite thought was possible. The idea that car’s can increase in value has always existed, but its been reserved for the rarest cars around, the most desirable ones or the oldest ones that hold a special historical significance. Since 2020 though, we’ve seen a new cohort of cars rise, one of standard everyday second hand vehicles that were actually increasing in value as they aged, seemingly defying all logic. This led to the highest second hand car prices we have ever seen in many countries around the world, in what has been described as a car price bubble. As with all bubbles though, what goes up, must come down, and that is what we are now witnessing today. We are in the midst of the first ever car bubble collapse, the consequences are huge and the margins for error are very slim. But just how did this all start?
