In an unusual move for the military, the Brazilian army invaded the favelas of Rio de Janeiro and killed the top leaders of the Comando Vermelho (Red Command) drug cartel, which supports Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Analysts believe that this indicates the beginning of the federal military intervention.
