Athena Strand, 7, disappeared on November 30 from her father's home in Texas. His lifeless body was found later, on December 2, a few kilometers from the house. His death has shocked the people of Wise County and the entire country.

The police describe the unfortunate death of the young woman as a "crime of opportunity". Tanner Horner, a 30-year-old FedEx driver, has been arrested for the crime and has confessed to having ended the girl's life an hour after she was kidnapped and disposed of her body.

The loss of the precious girl has shocked the entire country, and even more so Athena's family. Even more heartbroken was Athena's grandfather, Mark Strand, who confessed that he would probably kill the man if he were any closer to him, as the great hatred and rage he felt within him as a man for the killer would overpower him.
However, he says that the little voice of the Holy Spirit speaks to him so that he puts hatred aside and forgives man, for his own peace and that of his family. He wrote a heartbreaking post on Facebook, venting his anger and grief over the death of his granddaughter. And publicly forgives the man who killed her.

Mark wrote that the man he is [flesh and blood] wants that psychopath to burn in hell for all eternity, and yet the soft voice keeps telling him that he has to forgive him.

“A friend just asked me the other day if I believe that God speaks to people. I know you know as you are speaking to me now," Mark Strand wrote. “This flesh, this man that I am, is angry and I want 5 minutes alone in a cell with the psycho that took our Athena from us, but there is a soft, gentle voice in the back of my head telling me that I need to forgive him. ”.
