Below are the parts available for each suite. Performance Notes:

Tchaikovsky premiered his ballet, “The Nutcracker,” in Saint Petersburg, Russia in 1892. While not immediately successful, it has become a staple of ballet companies the world over and has found great popularity in concert performances of the suite he later excerpted from the ballet. These two suites include eight—four in each—of the most recognizable pieces. The suites may be performed individually, sequentially, or intermingled with the individual pieces ordered in any way the performers might prefer.

Suite No. 1
I. Ouverture Miniature
II. Danse des Mirlitons
III. Danse Arabe: "Cafe"
IV. Danse Russe: "Trepak"

Suite No. 2
I. Marche
II. Danse Espagnole: “Chocolat”
III. Danse de la Fée-Dragée
IV. Valse des Fleurs

The pieces are optimized for the cornet/trumpet/flugelhorn family and the for euphonium/baritone. They may be performed on trombone as well, although the technique required makes some passages rather difficult and some not practically playable, except perhaps by world class performers. While trumpet or cornet would be preferable for most or all of the pieces, the flugelhorn provides contrast for a few of the movements-in particular, the Danse des Mirlitons, Danse Arabe: "Cafe", and the Danse de la Fee-Dragee.
