Nobody much uses shoe shine boxes anymore and the only place you can ever find them is at swap meets, flea markets and sometimes at antique stores. I'm not sure why they have grown out of favor, most shoes need some attention from time to time whether it's polishing, cleaning or just a bit of touch up. It makes sense to keep all your shoe repair and rejuvenation materials in one spot and why not keep them in an antique looking box?: Perhaps something that looks like it was left to you by your grand parents that you could display in your living room, bedroom or even in a porch, stoop of mud room and then you would know where your shoe shine and shoe re-juv gear is.
One word of caution, if you have young children you may either want to put a lock on the box, or make sure it does not contain anything that can harm them should they get into it. Better to keep any potentially noxious materials out of reach of the children.
But even if the box is empty, or contains other things, it still looks great with it's box joint sides and that little wooden sole/handle on top. It looks like it came from the past and is sure to catch the eye of visitors to your abode ... and it's fun to make. Another great reason to have router table and now an adjustable box joint jig that makes it even more useful.
