The Shortcomings of Mindfulness
In this series, we talk about a variety of concepts in spirituality as they relate tour conscious energy in the scriptures of Christianity and other Religions of the World.
In this video I introduce
1. Mindfulness
2. Formlessness
3. & Mindlessness
As we inquire into the mysteries in the Bible, Vedanta in Hinduism and Tripitaka in Buddhism
We will continue this discussion every Sunday at 10:30 EST for the next few weeks

The impossible human mind

It is easy to communicate Divine Wisdom to an audience not as intellectually sophisticated.
The more someone advanced in education the more they develop polarized and structured perceptions within themselves.
For them “green” is a well-defined color deeply entrenched in their ordered perceptions.
If I tell them that the leaves are not green but consist of variable shades of colors, they simply would not get it.
In fact, there is no specific color as digital and polarized in any and all of God’s creations – none of God’s creations are alike – they are unity in diversity.
To appreciate and enjoy the creation in unity in diversity, it gets better and better as our mind unlearns our defined set of stereotypes and perceptions and rise towards the mind of God.
However, it is also incredibly difficult since we practice intellectual religions with a defined set of doctrines.
That is why Jesus says, “blessed are the poor in Spirit – a spirit that is empty of ordered perceptions.”

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is based on at least 5,000 years old Indian philosophy and theology in which the “mind over matter;” how mind takes control of all material elements in our cosmic universe of consciousness, for the betterment of all humanity.
In this, cosmic universe of consciousness is perceived as an enlightened mind that witnesses and perceives everything – even godliness.
2,500 years later, Buddha the enlightened-one emerged. But in the Indian version of Buddhism, cosmic universe of consciousness is still perceived as “mind over matter.”
However, when Buddhism spread into China, the Buddhist monks in China perceived something else in the teachings of Buddha – Formlessness.
Thus emerged ZEN BUDDHISM

ZEN & Formlessness

Above our ordinary world, there are two realms: the higher realm of formlessness (arupa-dhatu) and realm of form (rupa-dhatu). Then even below these, is the realm of desire (kama-dhatu) which contains six domains (gatis), each with its own kinds of beings:
1. Devas or gods.
2. Asuras or titans (or jealous gods, or demigods),
3. Manusyas or humans.
4. Tiryaks or animals.
5. Pretas or hungry ghosts.
6. Narakas or demons (hell beings)
All of these desires and forms that carry these desires are relevant in samsara -- imperfect existence, and therefore governed by karma and its fruits (vipaka).

The Satsang continues as Anthony Nayagan discusses Formlessness is;

Is a field of pure conscious energy in which there is no material entanglements or obstacles whatsoever.
It is free of any desires
It is free of any advaitic knowledge
It is the purest “oneness of being”

What is relevant to formlessness is not mindfulness – it is mindlessness!
In a simplistic way, it is mindfulness so abstract – it is mindlessness!
In the realm of infinite reality, matter is insignificant. Thus is mindfulness!
