Pandas mostly reside in temperate forests high in the mountains of southwest China, where they eat bamboo primarily. Depending on what portion of the bamboo they are consuming, they must consume between 26 and 84 pounds of it each day. They employ their protruded wrist bones, which serve as opposable thumbs.

A panda's size at birth is roughly equal to that of a stick of butter, or approximately 1/900th the size of its mother. As adults, female pandas may weigh up to 200 pounds, while male pandas can weigh up to 300 pounds. Despite their size, these bears are skilled tree climbers.
