Set of 100 ALDI LED Pickwick Christmas Lights - Unboxing & Review | Part 2 of 3 - SHOCKING DISCOVERY

In this video, we unbox and examine a set of Perfect Christmas 100 LED Pickwick Nostalgic Lights, they were sold in ALDI last Christmas.

I found them to be a little pricy at the time, but in the new year the prices were reduced to £8.99 a box, so I bought 2 sets of each of the two designs.

They got put away with all the other decorations, but I have dug them out to take a look and see what they are like.

As we found with the Canterbury Belles, the quality control of these lights is not good, these are even worse!

Buyers beware, on this set I found bare wires where one of the LEDs had been completely sheared off.

What is even more shocking is that these lights are actually made by NOMA!

Such poor quality from such a prestigious brand is decremental to not only to their customers, but their own history.

I have a theory that these poor quality lights have not passed the quality control NOMA has put in place, and they have sold off batches to another company who re-brand them for other companies to sell.

Just a theory though, i'd hate to think there is any truth in it.

It is such a shame as these lights are a missed opportunity, great design, poorly made.

Do not buy these lights, they are in my opinion, DANGEROUS!

If you don't mind tinkering to fix them, then go for it, but you have been warned!

A little 'light' history.

The early 90's were the beginning of the end for 'classic' style Christmas light sets, new manufacturing and safety laws saw the delicate thinner cables replaced with thick and bulky black ones for 240v sets of lights, making them look cumbersome and chunky.

NOMA still produce some 'classic style' sets of lights, identical to the late 80's lights but unfortunately with this thick cable.

Over the years, Christmas lights have been replaced with characterless, shadeless sets of lights, then eventually we got the domination of LED lights.

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of modern lights that I do like, and I will try to do some videos about them too.

We do hope that one of the legacy firms like PIFCO or NOMA bring back the classic style lights, perhaps in low voltage LED form in sets of 20 and 40, and possibly 60-100 too with the old style shades, a mix and match option would be brilliant.

What do you think ?
