Small scrambling, evergreen tree native to Africa and Australia with 400 species worldwide. The awesome purple/mauve, 1" wide star-shaped flowers are borne along the stem at the end of spring and then, occasionally, the rest of the year. The elegant leaves are shiny and deep green. On occasion, the Lavender Star may produce four-lobed berries (from where it gets its common names "Crossberry" and "Four-corner"). These shiny reddish-purple fruits remain on the tree for long periods. When placed outside in warm weather it is very good at attracting butterflies and birds to the garden.
