Russian agency RIA Novosti published a video on Friday (December 2) claiming to show Russian forces in the Ukrainian village of Novoselivske in Luhansk Region.

In the footage, an unnamed military figure says the village - which appears to be all but completely destroyed - was being cleared of remaining Ukrainian troops and that the settlement would soon be fully under Russian control.

Reuters could not independently verify the claim.

The village is located 184 kilometres (114 miles) north of Luhansk on the border with Ukraine's Kharkiv region. According to the 2001 census, the settlement was home to 736 people.

Fighting continues to rage in eastern Ukraine, with the town of Bakhmut - to the south of Novoselivske - remaining the main target of Moscow's artillery attacks, while Russian forces in the southern Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions remain on the defensive, Ukraine's General Staff said.
