Sandra Mason was been chosen as Barbados' first president. At a ceremony honoring the founding of the new country, she was sworn in. The island receives the "warmest good wishes" from Queen Elizabeth, according to Prince Charles.
A republic is a form of government in which citizens choose representatives to lead their nation. A monarchy is a form of government where the king or queen rule by birthright.
