Astrapia arfak is a large bird species, body length of approximately 76 centimeters, black in color, with various plumage colors such as purple, green and bronze. Astrapia arfak, also known as Astrapia nigra, is a type of bird. This name comes from 2 languages, namely Greek and Latin, Astrapia in Greek means light and nigra in Latin means black.

This bird is endemic to the region of West Papua, Indonesia. This bird can be found in the Arfak Mountains, Papua, Indonesia, especially in the Tamarau area. This bird is a rare and protected species of aves because their numbers are limited and can only be found in a few places, such as in Eastern Indonesia.

This type of bird has a short beak and a long blunt tail. The male bird has the characteristics of having a straight and long tail, has black feathers on the chest and has complex fur, on the head, basically the hair on the head of the male is black, usually up to 60 cm long, on the nape of the neck to the cape layer greenish yellow, on the upper wing of the male bird is shiny purple like the color of the tail. Whereas in females, they get a blackish brown color that looks pale on the belly, usually up to 50 cm long.
