I’m always reading about how young entrepreneurs need mentors. How does one find a mentor?

Good question!

Yes, finding a mentor is so critical for a young entrepreneur. You can find them at business clubs or online. A mentor that has 20 or 30 years of experience can help you make millions of dollars by introducing you to business concepts you are not aware of.

In addition to that they also can guide you so you make fewer mistakes on your journey to success. There are many ways to find a mentor. You want to find people that have a demonstrated history of excellence in their field.

When I mentor young entrepreneurs I spend time talking to them to understand how they think about business and where the gaps in their knowledge are. Each of them has weak points and these weak points are what I focus on. I don’t teach them what they want to know, I teach them what they need to know.

Many of them are not even aware of the massive gaps in their knowledge and how it will create problems for them later as an entrepreneur. I think it is irresponsible mentorship to just teach the one thing that a mentee wants to learn and not pay any attention to their weak points.
