Wikipedia Plot...
When the Enterprise and the USS Cayuga provide supplies to an outpost by the Romulan Neutral Zone, Pike accidentally meets one of the cadets that he will sacrifice himself for in the future and decides to send warnings to them to prevent the accident from happening. He is visited by an older version of himself from a future where the accident does not happen, who shows Pike the consequences of this decision: seven years in the future, the Enterprise sees a Romulan Bird of Prey starship destroy the outpost.
They track it with support from the USS Farragut and Captain James T. Kirk, who suggests an aggressive approach, but Pike insists on negotiating. The Romulan commander agrees to a ceasefire, but his sub-commander summons an armada of Romulan warships that damage the Enterprise, severely injuring Spock, and declare war on the Federation.
In his own time, Pike accepts that his fate is necessary to save Spock and prevent war. His peace is interrupted by Captain Batel of the Cayuga, who boards the Enterprise and arrests Number One for being a genetically altered Illyrian.

Wiki Cast
Anson Mount as Christopher Pike: captain of the USS Enterprise. The writers took Mount's own leadership style as inspiration for the character. Co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman explained that Mount liked to find consensus within a group, and so a table was added to Pike's quarters where he could convene the crew and cook for them.
Ethan Peck as Spock: science officer aboard the Enterprise
Jess Bush as Christine Chapel: a civilian nurse on the Enterprise. Co-showrunner Henry Alonso Myers felt the character's portrayal in The Original Series came from a "very different conception of women and of marriage and what people would do in their jobs" that present-day audiences would not expect, and sought to tell new stories with a character inspired by Bush's strengths.
Christina Chong as La'an Noonien-Singh: the Enterprise's newly assigned chief of security and a relative of Ricardo Montalbán's Star Trek villain Khan Noonien Singh
Celia Rose Gooding as Nyota Uhura: a cadet on the Enterprise specializing in linguistics. Despite the character's important role throughout the Star Trek franchise, the writers felt that there was a lot still unknown about her that could be explored.
Melissa Navia as Erica Ortegas: the Enterprise's helmsman. Her surname is a reference to the original Star Trek pitch which included a navigator named Jose Ortegas.
Babs Olusanmokun as M'Benga: the Enterprise's chief medical officer
Bruce Horak as Hemmer: the Enterprise's chief engineer. Hemmer is an Aenar, which are an albino subspecies of Andorians that are generally depicted as blind; Horak is blind in one eye with limited sight in the other.
Rebecca Romijn as Una Chin-Riley / Number One: first officer of the Enterprise and second-in-command to Pike
