Dr. Emmanuel Navon: Future Political Map of the Middle East, New Paradigms w/Sargis Sangari EP #127

On Monday, 28 NOV 22, On the 127th EPISODE of New Paradigms with Sargis Sangari, Emmanuel Navon, PH.D., Lecturing Professor at Tel-Aviv University & Reichman University, Senior Fellow at the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security, Senior Fellow at the Kohelet Policy Forum, and Senior Analyst for I24News, joins me to discuss The Future Political Map of the #MiddleEast & The #NearEast Future Over the Next Decade.

Dr. Navon updated us on the current challenges facing Benjamin #Netanyahu, formally tasked with forming #Israel's new Government two weeks ago and after the November 1st elections.

Dr. Navon explained that Israelis are still trying to figure out what the current Government will look like, with press reports stating that there is still a lot of tension between the current #PrimeMinister and his #coalition #partners.

On paper, Netanyahu has 53% of the #Knesset, with 50% of the popular vote cast by his party and his #allied' party members. Netanyahu continues to move towards a #rightwing coalition focused on pursuing Israel's #regional and national standings and widening the #AbrahamAccords. However, Dr. Navon believes that the current alliance as constituted may limit Netanyahu's goals. It's possible that some #Arab #states will not be happy with some of the #farright coalition parties in the PM's Government.

Dr. Navon was a member of the #LikudParty but left in 2015, given his disagreement with Netanyahu. The main point of contention for Dr. Navon was that Netanyahu dissolved a government that was working with center-right coalitions within the Government, which led to years of political instability, with five snap elections called in the country since 2019.

I brought up Dr. Navon's 2021 article for the Times of Israel during our discussion. Dr. Navon noted how Israel is stuck between #morals and real #politics in the article.

Dr. Navon laid bare the dilemma Israeli politicians face when dealing with the Chinese Communist Party (#CCP). I told Dr. Navon that many #Americans have difficulty understanding the absolute political angle, seeing the CCP as the 21st Centuries #Nazi #Germany. With CCP having conducted #genocide on multiple occasions and now starting a new #militaristic #expansionism, I asked the Dr. to update us on the situation Israel faces since his 2021 article, specifically how Israel views the #Iranian link in the Chinese-dominated and led Shanghai Cooperation Organization (#SCO).

Dr. Navon and I discussed how the Israeli Government views America's attempts to #aid #Iran via #funding to develop its #nuclear capability especially given they support #terrorism.

We discussed the current state of the Abraham Peace Accords and how Israel benefited over the last few years from it as we discussed where he sees the accords heading in the future.

Dr. Navon discussed the issues and topics referencing the future of #energy #alliances in the middle east and the complicated relations between #Russia and #Ukraine, #Zelensky, and #India since the war and given # Europe's need for new energy sourcing.

We discussed the dilemma faced by the #Kurds in #Syria, #Iraqi Kurdish North, #Turkey, and within #Iran as they are currently targeted by the four nations that are trying to ensure the Kurdish power is reduced to a manageable level.

Finally, Dr. Navon discussed his vision of how the Middle East region will reshape itself politically and based on #economic and energy needs if the current Iranian Government ceases to exist as constituted.
