New insect species discovered in China's Wuyishan National Park
1 year ago
A new insect species has been found during a three-year background survey of biological resources in Wuyishan National Park, which straddles the provinces of Jiangxi and Fujian in east China.
"Ectinoderus sinicus" belongs to the Ectinoderini tribe within the largest assassin bug subfamily Harpactorinae. Ectinoderini comprises two genera and 21 species distributed in the Oriental and Northern Australasian regions. Due to their remarkable habit of collecting and utilizing exogenous plant resin to capture their prey, members of this genus are sometimes called "resin bugs."
