We continue to feel the reverberating impact of last week’s episode. This week we meet Nick’s parents, Nick Sr. and Maria Burriel. Waterproof eyeliner is highly recommended as 6 launches us on a rollercoaster of heartbreak and inspiration.

We begin with the trademark opening banter from the outlaws. PhillVill shares news and updates and in keeping with the election season Loto initiates Overflow’s own campaign. “1000 Subscribers Thousands More  reached.” Rallying the Overflow Extended Family to join the push for 1000 subscribers. Which represents even thousands more lives. Then we meet Nick and Maria Burriel, Nick Jr.’s parents, and see clearly where Jr. gets most of his superhero powers.

Nick Sr. takes us back to the olden days and Loto can’t help fanning out to childhood favorites. Who doesn’t remember morning cartoons and Fox kids before going to school. Or waiting to play on this new thing called “Nintendo,” at Gottschalks? Maria gives us a closer look into Nick’s upbringing and we see a parent’s unwavering commitment to give their children every opportunity to excel. Then the moment happens that stops everything.

Mom and dad discusses the heart wrenching details of journeying from the phone call to fighting the good fight of faith for their family. Maria recalls seeing her son’s body leaving the ambulance under the dreaded white sheet. Nick let’s us see the disorient and despair of feeling helpless. But God!

You will walk away from this Overflow determined to find your place in the family of heroes. Because if Nicks parents teaches us anything it’s that heroes aren’t extraordinary people. They are just everyday people willing to do extraordinary things. A little brother who refuses to let the world including Nick himself treat his brother any different because of some challenges; a dad who takes on the enormous challenge to help his daughter’s boyfriend’s parents fight for their son’s future; friends rushing to the hospital to pray for their friends in need.

This powerful moment filled Overflow closes with an urgent reminder to never stop praying for our children. We literally witness the power of a parent’s prayer to bring their child back from the dead. All in all, it’s more than a parents prayer and faith. The tragedy shared in this story actually resulted in a family’s journey to faith in God. For this story is all about our heavenly Father’s faithfulness to keep His promise, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
