Mahsa Amini, a 22-year old Kurdish-Iranian died on September 16, 2022 following reported severe beatings at the hands of Iran's religious Morality Police. The Guidance Patrol arrested Amini, aka Jina Amini for not wearing a hijab. This incident incited ongoing protests throughout Iran, including in the Mahabad region of Kurdistan, and sympathetic gestures outside of Iran. We discuss the incident and the surrounding implications.
