The great King and his Kingdom

This is a story of a King and his Kingdom.

Long ago, people lived happily under the rule of a king. The inhabitants of the kingdom were very fortunate as they lived very prosperous lives with lots of wealth and no misfortunes. One day the king decided to visit places of historical importance and pilgrimage centers in distant places. He chose to travel on foot to communicate with his people. The residents of distant places were very fond of conversing with their king. They were proud that their king had a good heart. After a journey of several weeks, the king returned to the palace. He was very fortunate to visit many pilgrimage centers and witness his people leading a prosperous lifestyle. However, he regretted one thing. He had excruciating pain in his legs as it was his first long-distance hike. He complained to his ministers that the roads were uncomfortable and very rocky. He couldn't take the pain. He said that he was very worried about the people who would have to walk down these streets because they would get hurt too! In view of this, he ordered his servants to cover the roads across the country with leather so that the people of his kingdom could walk comfortably. The royal ministers were stunned when he heard his order, as it meant thousands of cows would have to be slaughtered to obtain enough leather. And it will also cost a lot of money. Finally a wise man from the ministry came to the king and said he had another idea. The king asked what the alternative was. The minister said, "Instead of covering the streets with leather, why not just cover your legs with a piece of leather of the appropriate shape?" The king was very surprised by his proposal and applauded the wisdom of the minister. He ordered a pair of leather boots and asked all his countrymen to wear shoes too.

Moral: Change yourself, not the world:
Instead of trying to change the world, we should, at first, try to change ourselves.
