In Ottawa, federal ministers Patty Hajdu (Indigenous Services) and Marc Miller (Crown-Indigenous relations) discuss the latest updates on the government’s final compensation agreement for First Nations children harmed by the underfunding of the on-reserve child welfare system. They announce their government has filed an application for a judicial review of the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal's decision, made on October 25, that rejected the agreement on the grounds it did not meet all of the tribunal's criteria. The Assembly of First Nations and the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society filed a complaint with the CHRT in 2007 alleging that the child welfare system discriminated against First Nations children.
