50 injured as earthquake shakes northwest Turkey

A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck in Duzce, northwest Turkey, in the early hours of Wednesday, November 23, injuring 50 people, a government agency said, with tremors felt as far away as Istanbul and Izmir. Turkey’s disaster management ministry said the earthquake struck the Golyaka district of Duzce at 4:08 am, and at least 18 aftershocks followed. Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said no deaths had been reported. Shocks were felt as far as Istanbul, Bolu, Sakarya, Ankara, Kocaeli, Kutahya, Bilecik, Bursa and Izmir, according to local news reports. This footage shows people milling around at a student dorm facility in Istanbul.
