Exploring an Abandoned Football Stadium in Gary, Indiana - Gilroy Stadium

This Abandoned Football Stadium was built 1956 for more then $1 million, and never completed. (Lambeau Field in Green Bay, an NFL stadium seating 32,000, was built in 1957 for $950,000). The north stands, seating 5,000, started falling apart almost right away, and the south stands (intended to seat another 5,000) were never completed. By the mid-60s, Gary schools, the intended tenants, refused to use it for safety reasons, and that was pretty much the end for Gilroy Stadium. Now the Stadium is rotting away. The concrete is even collapsing. Hidden in the overgrowth was a tennis building with books, racquets, racquet covers, and balls left behind.
