At a news conference on Parliament Hill, representatives from the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) and the United Steelworkers union (USW) raise concerns that Canadian Tire Corp. Ltd. is failing to ensure that thousands of garment workers in its supply factories in Bangladesh are being paid a living wage. Marty Warren, Canadian national director of the USW, Kalpona Akter, executive director of the Bangladesh Center for Workers Solidarity, and Doug Olthuis, head of global affairs at USW’s Canadian office, discuss a complaint that was filed with Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise calling for an investigation on allegations of human rights abuses in the retailer's supply chain.
