Huge blaze breaks out at Russian fuel depot after blast near Donetsk

A large fire broke out at Makiivka fuel depot on Monday (November 21), near Donetsk in the Russian-controlled part of east Ukraine.

The blaze was caused by an "explosive flammable object", according to the Emergencies Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic which Russia officially annexed in September.

The fire affected three fuel tanks on the ground and two railway tank cars.

Some 20 fire trunks were called to the scene, but no casualties were reported.

Makiivka, to the east of the Russian-controlled city of Donetsk, has been the subject of intense shelling in recent weeks.

At least one person died when a shell hit an apartment block on November 4.
