Residents in Pakistan oppose screening of transgender movie

Several Pakistani institutions and the Lahore High Court have characterized the country’s official Oscar entry ‘Joyland’, which portrays a romantic relationship between a married man and a transgender woman, as ‘repugnant to the norms of decency’ in their petitions.

They were filed after the Central Board of Film Censors decided to allow the screening despite a government ban that had previously been imposed following pressure from Islamic groups.
