COVID-19: State of local emergency declared amid outbreaks at Canada's oilsands

Alberta has the most COVID-19 infections per capita of any province in Canada. There are 455 cases of COVID-19 for every one hundred thousand people, according to Canada’s health agency.

Within the province, the hardest-hit region is the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, which is home to Fort McMurray and Canada’s oilsands.

With outbreaks at nine oil sands sites, the region has declared a state of local emergency in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19
