Sacred blossoms

Visitors enjoy the ume plum blossoms at Kitano Tenmangu shrine in Kyoto. Kitano Tenmangu enshrines Sugawara Michizane, who is regarded as the god of learning, and boasts about 1,500 ume plum trees because it is believed he loved them. The plum blossoms can be enjoyed until mid-March
