Synergistic dominance is when a helper muscle takes over the actions of a joint for the prime mover.

An example here is how the glutes and hamstrings should be performing 50% of the work during hip extension. Yet for so many of us who have trouble firing up the glutes, the hamstrings tend to be the dominant mover, performing roughly 80% of the work while the glutes only perform 20%.

So what can you do here? Relax the hamstrings first with self massage techniques and then perform hip extension exercises. Lets be clear here, this is strictly for training the glutes with isolated exercises.

If you plan on performing squats or deadlifts to train the glutes, there’s no way for the hamstrings to not contribute which is why you shouldn't follow this advice. Isolated exercises = 👍| Compound Exercises = 👎.
