Mary Peltola has secured the Alaska At-Large congressional seat for the Democrats, but how did she do it? Republican Don Young held that district for decades, and one of her opponents was Sarah Palin. Palin has a great deal of name recognition to help her but she also had something else that wasn't so helpful. People hate her guts.

Yes, I was just calling and giving some comments on the Alaskan elections. We had our ranked Choice voting. And it looks like Mary Peltola is going to win. Which is amazing. It's a big change here. [Applause] Sorry. quite the change from the old [ __ ] Don young. So it's good it's a good thing. And as of right now in the first round Kelly Shabaka is ahead of Lisa Murkowski. Which is terrifying. And hoping that changes in the second round. So we'll see about that. let me ask you this. Well, I mean what's terrifying about it? Kelly Shabaka is very far right compared to Lisa Murkowski basically. Like what do you anticipate what votes you anticipate that Lisa Murkowski would have been more helpful on. I don't know off the top of my head specific votes. But Lisa has been one of the few Republican Senators that will occasionally vote with Democrats. And Kelly Shabaka I don't think will ever do that. right. I mean I think that's true. But my sense is that every time Murkowski has done it she's been released by McConnell. Like it like like in other words like it's a done deal. And in and the vote is actually more for her branding than it is for any change it would bring about. right. No, I would agree with that. Yeah I mean that's the things that I think like on some level I'm trying to look like looking at 538 has got. Now her Trump score was 72.6. So I guess that's that's pretty low. I'm trying to figure out where she voted against trump it was the veto okay Trump overrode The veto overriding Trump's veto of the National Defense authorization act. she voted to override his veto on that. So it was the National Defense thing. She voted to reverse the Department of Education regulation on student loans that's good.
