17th in our series the Prophet Zephaniah

I. The Judgment of God - Zephaniah 3:1-2
* A. The Woe is pronounced by God when the rebellion begins
* 1. That rebellion results in moral and physical pollution
* 2. It also results in oppression
* a. The people oppress by not obeying God’s Law thereby violating God given rights
* b. The civil government also becomes oppressive for it does not obey God’s Law
* B. God’s judgment comes upon a people when they 
* 1. Refuse to hear the voice of the Lord
* 2. Reject God’s corrective discipline
* 3. Refuse to Trust in the Lord
* 4. And will not draw near to God 
* C. The civil government becomes all twisted and bent - Zephaniah 3:3
* 1. The Princes (Executive branch) are roaring lions
* a. They take after their father - 1 Peter 5:8
* b. The second son of King Josiah, Eliakim - 2 Kings 23:34-37
* c. Grandson of King Josiah - 2 Kings 24:6, 9
* d. The third son of King Josiah, Zedekiah - 2 Kings 24:17-20: 25:7
* 2. The Judges (Judicial branch) evening wolves
* a. They love darkness - John 3:19
* b. The civil government instead of establishing justice practices legal plunder
* c. So extensive the plunder that not a bone is left

* A. Repentance in Self, Family, Church and Civil government
* B. How should we then vote? - Exodus 18:21
