Recorder Ainsworth concluded the case over lunch to consider whether to imprison Schofield, advising the court he took the risk to peruse the pre-sentence report a subsequent time. He said: "You're 19 years old, you're a young fellow with no past convictions except for those two things, your age and nonappearance of convictions, doesn't start to manage the perplexing story of your life up to this point.
"Obviously you have had an undeniably challenging youth. It's obvious from what I read you saw brutality of the sort you were engaged with on January 14 this year. You were set in child care and moved from one position to ano.
