Rishi Sunak denies Brexit is playing a role in UK's economic downturn

In a press conference delivered at the G20 summit in Bali, British prime minister Rishi Sunak said he didn't believe Brexit was to blame for the UK's economic woes.

Sunak highlighted the legacy effects of Covid and Putin's invasion of Ukraine. 'Every country will have its own idiosyncratic things, but those are the overwhelming dominating factors,' said Sunak.

Taking a swipe at the financial chaos unleashed by Liz Truss' short-lived mini-budget, he also reiterated his point that the upcoming autumn budget would be rooted in 'fairness' and 'compassion'.
