A FOREST Without DEER BROWSE — Ep. 045

After our exploration of a low-mow, native lawn (see video here: https://youtu.be/J3-fumkbqvw), Director of Natural Areas of Cornell Botanic Gardens, Todd Bittner, took us through Mundy Wildflower Garden to see the results of a decade plus deer fence, which allows more seedling recruitment and regeneration in the forest.

Todd shared that deer browse is one of the more serious conservation issues in this region. The use of a deer exclusion fence was particularly interesting to us because we have a pre-existing deer exclusion fence on the land, (which does require some fixing), and our plans are to extend it into a small area of the forest to see if we can get more regeneration in our forest.
