In 2006, Drake entered the music industry with the release of his debut mixtape, Room for improvement. The mixtape featuring Trey Songz, Lupe Fiasco and Frank Dukes, only sold about six thousand copies. The minimal sales Drake a whopping $304.04 in royalties. With his second mixtape being more successful than the first, Drake immediately started work on a third mixtape which he ended up releasing in 2009. Due to the success of Drake's mixtapes and EP, several labels were competing to sign him, ensuing in one of the biggest bidding war ever for an unsigned artist.
After the release of his debut album, every. Single. Album. he released was a tremendous success. Not one Drake album failed to go 4-times platinum. His entrepreneurial quest started in 2012 when Drake founded the OVO Sound record label with 40, his longtime collaborator.
The Canadian artist is among the world’s best-selling music artists, with over 170 million records sold, several record-breaking feats to his name and very prosperous ventures. He is on the fast path of his predecessors, Jay Z & P Diddy, who became billionaires in their own right.
