Life After Deportation

Born and raised in New Jersey
After my mom got deported and my dad cut off his ankle bracelet
I.C.E used to follow me around
I was 15 years old
scared beyond what you can think but that turned around when I knew they couldn’t touch me
Every time I saw them it was middle fingers up add tears and a verbal FUCK YOU FOR TAKING MY PARENTS AWAY
After my parents were gone
I spent a lot of birthdays and holidays alone
I was with strangers but I didn’t have my home anymore
I cried so much and I still do. My best friend got shot and it’s pain you can’t forget but learn to live with
I feel like I have been fighting for air for so long
I was thrown in a fire I wasn’t prepared for
And I’m still learning how to be a man
I was paying bills and worrying about food while you were sitting in class or having dinner at home
Im not comparing but I say that with pride and courage because
I raised MYSELF
I gave MYSELF principals
I gave myself a lot of care during times I was very hard on myself and it wasn’t my fault,
I didn’t ask for my parents to get deported,
my heart was once innocent but those screams, my mom in jail, my dad running and plenty of other events filled me up with rage inside of a cage wide open for me to write this for you
This world is full of pain and we don’t talk about it enough from a perspective of love & compassion. This matrix has conditioned us to believe certain things.
I’m a Americas poster child like many other kids who got left behind
My heart & this book is for them
There’s poetry in my book &
stories about my best friend dying
stories about my patents being deported
small or big. I know you will relate.
